Camel rides and tours

About the camels of Wadi Rum
During your jeep tour in Wadi Rum you may see small herds of camels roaming the desert, either coming to Lawrence Spring to drink water at the permanent water source there, or wandering through the desert, grazing on the small shrubs, desert flowers and vegetation. None of the camels you see are wild, all of them are owned by someone. The camels roaming the desert are female, with a leading matriarch, and their job is to eat and reproduce. So, in the spring time you will see many baby camels. The male baby camels stay with their mother as long as they feed from her, they are gelded at 6 months, and start to train for their role in life, which is provide camel rides for visitors to Wadi Rum. First they follow along after their older brothers, getting used to being around people they have just met, and at about two years old, they start to provide rides for visitors.

A herd of camels roam in the south of the Wadi Rum Protected Area, foraging the available vegetation. Their owner will drive out each day with water and extra food.
1-hour camel ride - 20 JD per person
A 1-hour camel ride is a great add-on to your full day jeep tour or hiking tour. You will ride a camel between two of the desert attractions on your full day tour, travelling by camel instead of by jeep, and enjoy a slow-paced view of the spectacular landscapes inside the Wadi Rum Protected Area. Just as people have travelled since thousands of years ago in this part of the world.
For visitors on a half-day jeep tour, allow extra time for the 1-hour camel ride.
About our camel rides
The camels of Wadi Rum are well-treated and they have gentle natures.
On all camel rides you are accompanied by a camel guide. On the 1-hour and 2-hour rides, your camel guide will walk alongside.
On the longer rides, 4-hour and full-day tours, the guide will also be on a camel instead of walking alongside. So there is a 45 JD surcharge per group, additional to the camel ride price.
